Privacy policy
Steady: Drink Less is local-first. There is no account, no advertising, no third-party analytics or tracking, and no sale of personal data.
Data stored on your device
Steady stores your drink entries, reflections, urge sessions, goal history, and preferences on your device. Apple device backups may include app data according to your own iCloud backup settings.
Apple Health
Apple Health saving is optional and off by default.
- Steady requests write access only. It does not request, and cannot obtain, permission to read any Apple Health data.
- When you turn the setting on, Steady writes each entry's standard-drink estimate to the Alcoholic Beverages category in Apple Health, and updates or removes that sample when you edit or delete the entry.
- Steady does not upload Apple Health data to any server, and does not share Apple Health data with any third party. Health data is never used for advertising, marketing, or any use other than showing your own drink entries in Apple Health.
- Turning the setting off stops future writes. "Delete all local data" also removes the samples Steady wrote to Apple Health.
iCloud sync
Cloud sync is optional and off by default. If you turn it on, Apple's CloudKit syncs the app's own database — your drink entries, reflections, urge sessions, and goal history — through the private iCloud account signed in on your device. We do not operate a separate sync service and we cannot see that data. No Apple Health data is included in this sync.
Widgets and Apple Watch
The widget reads only a coarse weekly summary — totals, target, and alcohol-free days — from a shared container on your device. The Apple Watch companion exchanges quick-log entries and the same weekly summary with your paired iPhone. Neither leaves your devices.
Coaching
The reviewed on-device guidance sends nothing anywhere. Remote AI coaching is a separate opt-in and only functions when a production coaching service is configured for the app. Where it is available and you have opted in, the message you type is sent to our coaching service and its AI provider to generate a reply; you can additionally choose to share a coarse seven-day total. Your individual entries, notes, and Apple Health data are never attached. Chat history is not stored after the session.
Analytics and tracking
Steady contains no analytics SDK, no crash-reporting SDK, no advertising SDK, and no third-party software development kits of any kind. We do not collect usage statistics and we do not track you across apps or websites.
Notifications and device security
Reminder schedules stay on your device and are delivered by Apple. The optional app lock uses Apple's device authentication; Steady never receives or stores your Face ID, Touch ID, or passcode data.
Your choices
- Export your records as JSON or CSV at any time.
- Turn iCloud sync, Apple Health saving, reminders, and coaching on or off independently.
- Delete all local data from Settings, without an account or a subscription.
- Manage or revoke Steady's Health permission in the Apple Health app or in iOS Settings.
Children
Steady is intended for adults. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially, the updated date at the top of this page will change and the new version will be published here before the change takes effect in the app.
